Bezurk LogoTechnically, even though Bezurk is a travel search engine while Zuji is an authorized travel agency, they are still competitors in the eyes of the consumer as purchasing tickets from 1 site deprives the other. Both these companies are based in Singapore and has an Zuji LogoAsia-Pacific focus at the moment. Zuji has been around longer than Bezurk and interestingly, the founder and the CEO of Bezurk used to work at Zuji.

The big players of online travel such as Expedia and Kayak are usually not the best options for people in Asia as they generally only cover larger airlines which are definitely not the cheapest way to travel. Localized players like Bezurk and Zuji presents a greater value to the average bargain hunters.

Interface
Both web sites look highly professional but pursue different styles. While Bezurk pursues a simplistic Google-like interface, Zuji is somewhat like the Yahoo version with a lot more information packed in the home page.

In terms of the advertisements displayed , Bezurk has a better targeted advertising system where banner ads shown are related to your search locations while Zuji have general banner ads for all pages. This is what we would expect as a large part of Bezurk’s revenue is from advertising while Zuji’s major revenue stream should come from the ticket sales.

Price
I have tested several routes on the 2 sites to compare the prices and Bezurk has on every instance been cheaper than Zuji. Even for the exact same flights, the results on Bezurk presented a lower price. Another advantage of Bezurk is that it even runs through the databases of budget airlines.

Additional Features
As Bezurk pursues a simplistic approach to their solution, Zuji has definitely won in this area by a large margin. While Bezurk offers the usual hotel and activity search, Zuji provides a complete solution by offering car rental searches, travel insurance and tools such as currency and weather checking capabilities.

Conclusion
Zuji provides more assurance as they are a travel agency and you can deal with them directly on ticketing matters while Bezurk is a search engine that merely refers you to a third party site for your purchases. Therefore, for risk averse folks, Zuji may be the way to go and for bargain hunters who do not mind a bit more risk, Bezurk provides the perfect solution.

Bezurk is one of the best sites I have seen from a local web company and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to travel. This is definitely one of the companies that are capable of challenging the big boys.

You will find that ZUJI is one of the big players not only in Asia but globally being a Travelocity company. The three main online brands include Travelocity, ZUJI and Lastminute.com and they have reported over 10 billion USD is sales in 2005. This is much bigger than both Bezurk and Kayak which are smaller Meta search companies.

I agree that in terms of revenues and assets, Zuji is indisputably larger. My feeling is that Bezurk and Kayak’s decision to remain as search companies rather than doing tickets sales is so that they can reduce infrastructure costs and has several other key benefits.

They are also focusing on what they are strong at, which is their expertise in providing a good online experience. For example, you can go to eyoo.sg which Bezurk gets some of its tickets from and get the exact same price. But the user experience is so incredibly painful that you would not want to do that.

Essentially, i think Zuji and Bezurk follows very different business models and comparing their sizes may seem less relevant to the article where my purpose was to compare the user experience.

Thanks for the comment Dean! I really wasn’t aware that Travelocity had more than US$10 billion in revenue!
