imagesBBC recently just launched a Beta-version of its new homepage which has not yet replaced the old one until the testing phase is completed. This new homepage is a complete redesign with a completely new color. There is now even an analog clock at the top right of the page.

The new homepage has added new features with the intent of inducing people to make it their browser’s homepage, much like iGoogle. This homepage done in AJAX will allow users to move components around so that they can select the news categories they like the most and place it right at the top. They also have a component for weather reports even though it currently only works in the UK.

This “new” BBC homepage is definitely not a huge improvement and I wouldn’t expect users to just switch in from the other personalized homepage providers such as iGoogle or Protopage (one that I really like), but its definitely a value add for their current readers.
